Most states in the US require less than 1000 hours of training, some only 500 hours, whereas in Canada we have to have a minimum of 2200 hours of school to go out and practise.
Wow,
That's a lot of school! I bet a massage in Canada would be much better, if they've got that much experience / training!

How much can a therapist's technique vary?

If more hours are required in Canada, it could be that massage therapists there are allowed to do more than they are in the USA. It sounds like there training is closer to what is found in the training a physical therapist receives than what a massage therapist is actually allowed to do in the USA.

Therapists vary in whether they use deep muscle therapy, myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, passive motion, resisted or active and on and on. I've been a registered massage therapist for 17 years this June and I keep learning new techniques all the time. And yes, I'm in Canada and had the two years of school before I got my license in '92.

I must have missed this thread completely somehow. I have some serious ongoing issues with my right rotator cuff nothings torn, bruised or anything detectable but I swear sometimes the pain gets unbearable.

Feel free to post any issues you're having with rotator cuff pain, and maybe someone can help!
