| There have been times when I noticed greater weight loss when I didn't stick to the same caloric intake each day, and changed the sources and types of calories. I think the body become complacent when a pattern of eating becomes too familiar. Has anyone else found this to be true? How do you ad variety to your caloric intake? |

| Yes, this is a good idea for weight loss. Bodybuilders do this with high carbohydrate and low carbohydrate days. They'll do say 5 days of low / no-carb diet then a high carb day to keep their system in shock and keep results coming. Adding a high calorie / high carbohydrate day also keeps muscles from experiencing atrophy due to ketoacidosis.

| I had never heard of that until about 6 years ago when I started working with power lifters and a few body builders. I was aware of that with other things but it had never even crossed my mind that it had the same effect with the body. Could have come in handy 9 years ago when I first started dieting and really working out. |

| The most difficult aspect of doing this is fighting the temptation to fill high carb days with cherry pie and ice cream! LOL |

High carb means rice and green beans / more fruit etc.

| I guess keeping and maintaining a good weight is better done when keeping about the same calorie intake a day.I heard from a dietician that it's bad to really do that if you not an all star athlete and don't work out all the time. I guess that varies by person too. |

| Cycling caloric intake is done to prevent muscular atrophy due to incredibly low caloric intake. It is good for a model / bodybuilder etc. to cycle their caloric intake because it allows them to avoid serious muscular atrophy, but for the regular Joe, you can just cut your calories and get good results.
