| I was reading an article that most of us have heard something about over the years, about Leptin and how it can undermine successful weight loss. I wonder of all those who are unsuccessful with dieting and weight loss how many are as a result of this... Do you think this is a major cause for failure in those who are obese?? Here is a link to the article Battle Of The Bulge: Low Leptin Levels Undermine Successful Weight Loss |

| I have read somewhere about leptin a few weeks ago...Let me try and find the article and I will post it.

| Leptin likely works in concert with other appetite signaling processes in our bodies (just covered this in one of those get-three-credits-in-three-weeks summer course - my students were particularly interested in this). As we eat our stomach begins to fill and specialized cells in the lining of the stomach begin to stretch. These "stretch receptors" send a signal to the brain that the stomach is getting full. This in turn leads to the release of the neurotransmitter Leptin which binds to specific receptors in the hypothalmus to create a feeling of being full. You can imagine how these processes can work better or worse for many people. I am 6' 5" and 195lbs so my system leans towards signaling satiation more quickly than others might. Others may not feel satiated until well past the point of the average person. As is the case in most processes, these responses can be learned and trained to move in one direction or the other. |

I got to a point where 6,000 calories felt like that was normal, and it took a long time to shrink my stomach.
