Default The 1970's - Golden Era?

Would the 1970's be considered the Golden Era of bodybuilding? I tend to think so since this is the era the most famous stars came from.

I personally prefer the builds of the guys from the 70's/early 80's era. Those guys were huge and cut, not there were very, few mass monsters who have lost proportionality for size. There are some guys today who are pros with great proportion (Andy Haman on this site for one.) I hope that this kind of build is coming back into acceptability by judges.

I do like the look of the old school bodybuilders such as Arnold, but if I had to chose, I'd look like Andy Haman any day. Andy is what you'd call a Mass Monster, because he's HUGE, but he's also got the small waist, proportionate measurements between his arms, legs, chest, back, etc. He's not just all swole up, but also very lean and cut.

I like the Mass Monster look as long as they don't have the bloated gut / big arms, small legs look...

Exactly what I mean. Andy looks fantastic (I'd kill to look like him too.) He is huge, but he is proportionate without the bloat. He doesn't suffer from "show muscle" syndrome, so to speak. I'd vote for Andy or one of the few guys like him on the pros any day.

I guess I'd call a Mass Monster, one of those guys who blows up as much as they can, by any means they can, and gain size with no thought to proportion between body parts, owe thickened "roid guts" etc.

I would not exactly complain if I looked like the huge Arnold, LOL. I'd enjoy every second of it, in fact. (Or for that matter having that upper back you have in your avi.) He kept most of his proportion. But, honestly, I prefer his younger look. Just personal preference, I guess.

Thanks! I only weighed about 205 lbs. in that picture! I had a 29" waist with a 52" chest measurement though!

I only had 18 1/4" arms though... My legs were like a 23"

Now I wear a 33" pants size but everything else has grown proportionately, and I think it looks better...

If I can keep a 32" waist, (33" pants) and have a 20" bicep, and legs that don't let me wear regular jeans, I'll be happy...

What are your goals?

****, I'd kill right now for upper body measurements like that. Pecs are my weakest group.

As you might expect with someone who has dropped the weight that I did, I am very lower body heavy, in the spread of my muscle mass. I started off with almost nothing muscle wise above the waist. I've done OK in gaining some foundation, but I really need more upper body mass to balance the lower.

Size speaking, I'd like to be in the 18-19 bi's range and have everything else in good proportion. I'm guessing that will get me into the 50-52 chest range. Legs will never be a problem for me to grow, more of a problem to keep from growing too fast and get out of proportion. BF wise, I'd like to be in the 8-10% range average, but weight pounds wise is not a real issue for me. If I can get the mass and the BF% down where I want it, what the scale says is what it says.

If I can get to that point, I'd decide to either go full bore into a contest prep mode or what. (Honestly, I'd love to compete, but I do not know if I started too late to gain the mass I'll need with my bone structure.)

I have the leg/waist problem now. I wear 29/30 waist to fit my waistline, but I have to buy 32" loose fit to fit my legs so that the jeans look normal. I just have to always wear a belt and pull them up. At least in the summer with shorts, I can find a few pairs that fit both my waist and quads.

I guess cliffs are: I need a solid upper body mass building workout approach.

In any bodybuilding show they judge from the legs up, and MOST guys have too small of legs, so you're doing fine by having huge legs!!! Just get all swole up "up stairs" and you'll do fine!
