Nicotine, a drug that occurs naturally in tobacco makes a person addictive. Therefore it is very difficult for a smoker to quit smoking because of this addictive nature of nicotine. Nicotine leads to physical and mental addiction and smokers quickly become dependent on it. In order to quit smoking one has to overcome both the physical and psychological effects of nicotine addiction.

The habit of smoking develops into a routine and its very difficult to quit. Nicotine gives pleasure feeling that makes the smoker crave more. The smoker develops a nicotine tolerance, which in turn leads to increase in smoking. Finally a certain nicotine level is achieved in the smoker's body and they smoke enough to maintain it.

Then when a smoker tries to quit, he suffers mentally and physically. Anger, depression, tiredness, lack of sleep or concentration, restlessness, headaches are common symptoms of quit smoking.

Quitting smoke gets hard because with passage of time it becomes a big part of your life. You enjoy holding and puffing a cigarette. After some months, smoking becomes part of your daily routine.

Foremost, this is because most smokers become addicted to the nicotine contained in tobacco products. Nicotine has a deadly addictive power. How? When a person puffs a cigarette, nicotine particles find their way to the lungs through inhalation. From there, nicotine is absorbed into the bloodstream just like the oxygen people breathe. It travels with the blood to the brain where it locks onto certain receptor areas. Dopamine is then released into the brain. This is the chemical that makes the smoker feel a euphoric sensation. Smokers find it difficult to quit because
Not knowing what to do with their hands is another common complaint among ex-smokers while quitting. Once people get hooked, smoking becomes a big part of their lives. They seem to enjoy holding on a stick of cigarette and puffing on them. And after a long period of lighting up, it becomes a routine. As a fact, humans are creatures of habit. By some force of habit, smokers find themselves reaching for a cigarette and lighting it up automatically without thinking about it

Smoking causes disease and is a slow way to die. The strain of smoking effects on the body often causes years of suffering. Emphysema is an illness that slowly rots your lungs. People with emphysema often get bronchitis again and again, and suffer lung and heart failure.

Default Why is stop smoking so hard?

spoken from a non smokers point of view, I take it?

I have been trying to quit for a long time.
it is Easier said than done. For non smokers who have never felt a true addiction, I am happy for you.

My doctors say take this pill, it will help.
right, it either makes you depressed or wish you were dead.
then the doctors give you a pill to conteract the depression.
it is a no win situation.

I tell you what, seeing that you think it is so easy, come on oer while I quit again, for the 30th time, and see if I don't talk some sense into you... of course no violence intended.. but I wouldn't count on it the first thing to let go is my anger.
withdrawal is real, and like any other drug withdrawals,
there are complications.
