I am bit confused too but are you trying to say that if you lose weight and then put it back on its harder to get it off again? Though for some this is very true, I did put on a lot of weight very quickly and managed to lose it again.

It is very tough to maintain your weight after you reduce. I have read in health articles that when you diet and exercise to reduce weight, your body gets the tendency to store food as fats to fight the situation when the person tries starve again. It is famine like situation. It is a natural reaction of the body system. I reduced almost 70 pounds, with strenuous exercise and controlling my diet, but as the time passes, I feel that it is tough to maintain that weight. Recently doctors have come up with another theory that hormonal surgery is the only option left if you are overweight and want to reduce and remain in shape. Well I am not an expert but I keep reading books and articles on health. Last edited by BeFit4Free; 10-02-2008 at 08:06 PM. Reason: punctuation errors

| You're mostly right, If people Starve themselves to lose weight, their body thinks that they're starving to death. Then as soon as they eat again, their metabolism has changed to accommodate the "feast or famine" type diet they were undergoing so they store everything that they can as a viable energy source (fat) in case they starve again! The trick is, to change your eating habits and add exercise so your body understands that it's not starving to death, but actually living healthier. Eating more small meals and snacks per day and increasing caloric expenditure through exercise teaches your body that it's fine to burn off all the extra fat (energy) because you'll be feeding it in just a couple hours.

I remember the (now illegal) appetite suppressants that were sold in the 1980's. They were a major contributor to the yo-yo diet phenom.

Hmmm, it is very easy to eat but to exercise in order to maintain your slim figure is another story. I ponder how could we go routinely for those gym out there weeks after weeks as I can't even get myself there once a month. Yep, I am a bit lazy but I guess my discipline and will are not strong enough to pull me over to there!
