I'm looking for information on alternative treatments for depression / chronic fatigue. Since the testing etc. started for the brain tumor, they've taken me off the testosterone prescription temporarily and I've lost motivation and energy. I'm normally a really positive person but am having a really tough time feeling good. I saw another doctor this morning again and she wanted to prescribe antidepressants, but I'm not willing to take that junk. Do you guys know of any alternative treatments for depression besides the standard vitamin B-12 etc.? It would be great to find something that helps for the next few weeks to keep me up and running. Any help would be great. |

| Curtis we are so sorry you are going through this challenge. Since you are on anti-seizure meds I'd caution you to be careful in taking anything that might interact with the drug. For ex. Saint John's Wart is commonly used for depression but could possibly interact. I know you are getting lots of cardio exercise and walking which is awesome for feeling better. Another "safe" thing you can do is get some sunshine during the day. Not to the point of a sunburn but it will help produce melatonin which gives you energy and is a natural "upper"! Also, make sure to get a good 8-10 hours sleep every night. Your body heals when it's in REM sleep and melatonin production also happens then. Hang in there buddy. You will get through this and be healthier than before. Your "Tribe" is here for you! |

| I've been walking or riding at least a couple of miles per day as well as lifting weights 5 days per week for a couple of hours... Tonight I tanned at the gym and I think that helped too! Thanks for the ideas! Posted via Mobile Device |

| Curtis, I work with many clients and patients who suffer from depression and chronic fatigue. Like you, they too do not wish to take any medication. My recommendation to you is biofeedback. It is stress reduction. A natural homeopathic way of medicine. It can help in many ways. It will not only balance your emotions but will also align your chakra points. There are specific therapies that will target the depression and chronic fatigue. Such as color therapy, relaxation therapy, emotional stress balance, hormone therapy, etc. It will also help with your current medical condition. The possibilities are infinite with biofeedback. We live in a world today where more than half of our population suffer from some sort of depression or anxiety. Working in the medical field for over 10 years and also working with the natural ways of medicine I see what the side effects are from both medication and the natural remedies. Of course doing things the natural way takes longer to see results but the outcome is much more effective then just simply taking medication. The medication is just simply treating your symptoms and not getting to the root of the issues. I truely believe that with a few sessions of biofeedback you will begin to feel much more motivated and positive.

| Informative point for depression.Well I agree that one should pay attention for such alternative treatment if he or she caught by depression. One way which I want to suggest you is: Socializing:-This is another good way to help you get rid of a depressing situation. All you have to do is go to a club and make new friends. They can be your gym partner or your neighbors. Talk to them and share as much as you can, it will help you to forget everything and you feel up to date. Last edited by vancevalter66; 06-03-2010 at 10:55 PM. |
